Tanya Freeman, Esq.

Tanya is the managing partner of the family law practice at Callagy Law and is a champion for her community and an advocate steadfast on creating solutions to improve the health, education, and business development opportunities in underserved communities. Tanya Freeman is an accomplished legal advocate, with an extensive corporate background that enhances her ability to effectively represent clients in cases involving significant assets as well as closely-held businesses. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Freeman spent fifteen years in the banking and insurance industries leading audit teams; today, she can draw upon the strength of her financial, negotiation and legal experience to benefit her clients and the communities she serves. She has represented clients in cases involving professional athletes, television personalities and other high-profile celebrities.
 

Ms. Freeman is a dynamic leader in both the local business and legal communities. Tanya is the Chair of the Board of Directors of University Hospital in Newark, as appointed by New Jersey Governor Christie in 2014 and again by Governor Murphy in 2018. University Hospital is New Jersey’s only public hospital and in her capacity as Chair, Tanya oversees the 519-bed facility which serves as the principal teaching hospital for Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.  She also serves as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee, where she serves as the Chair of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee. In furtherance of Tanya’s commitment to improving educational opportunities in New Jersey, she most recently joined the Board of the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey where she serves as one of four Trustees. 
 

Among her numerous accolades and awards, NJ ROI names Tanya has one of the Top 25 most influential people in healthcare in 2022, commenting that her role as Board Chair “could be the most significant in the state.” Tanya was also named Family Practitioner of the Year by the Essex County Bar Association in 2021 and Top Family Law Lawyer by the Morris Essex Health & Life Magazine in 2018, 2020 and 2022. 
 

Tanya is frequently called upon to lecture both locally and internationally on Business Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as well as the importance of Cultural Competence in the legal community.
